Ashamed

Me and Dayana tonight after church!
This morning, when I looked back and saw my friend, Dayana and her family, at church, it made me so happy, yet, I was ashamed (avergonzado).

No, not ashamed that she had come, but ashamed of the fact that it is because of my 4 year old daughter that she was there and not because of me.

You see, Josey, my 4 year old, has been the one inviting Dayana’s son, Denziel, Josey’s classmate, to church.

Denziel & Josey tonight after church!
Along with Denziel, was his cousin, Miguel, another classmate of Josey’s. She’s been inviting him too!

There is no excuse for me not inviting Dayana, only shame because it was my 4 year old daughter inviting them and not me. I am hoping I can learn from her childlike exuberance. Learn to get out of my comfort zone. Become more like her, like a child in my manner of having no shame.

Why has it taken me so long to see this? I don’t know. But I do know that if I could have more of a childlike faith, or become more like my 4 year old, I could invite more people to church.

Ms. Andrea, Dayana's daughter, at church tonight!
She has no fear of rejection, only a small hope that one day they’ll come. Not ashamed!

My prayer is for God to make me more like Josey.

Maybe then I won’t be ashamed.

Ashamed that I did not ask first. Ashamed because a 4 year old beat me, a 29 year old, at inviting others to church.

Has your child ever put you to shame in a situation similar to this? Would you be willing to share a time of when you were ashamed?

I love to hear from my viewers/readers and your feedback is appreciated!

Luke 9:26 King James Version (KJV)

26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed…

  1. Interesting, I was just having this conversation with my mom last night. Thank you for the confirmation, we just have to keep inviting.

    1. You're welcome! I am hoping and praying that Josey will continue keeping me on my toes in this manner. In her innocence, she has shown me what others can do, if they'll put their mind to it.

  2. This reminds me of something that happened here a few years back...

My dad was giving this family Bible studies - a husband, wife, and two boys. After the wife came to church and received the gift of the Holy Ghost, the change in her was incredible and very obvious. She was friends with one of the moms in our church - their boys were in the same class. After service the new lady that had just gotten the Holy Ghost asked this 'seasoned saint' - "Why didn't you TELL ME??" I'll never forget the look in her eyes - sadness...confusion...desperation. She wished she would've gotten the chance to know the Lord years before, instead of experiencing the sin and pain of the world. But no one ever witnessed to her.
This conversation is one I think about often - I felt the pang in my heart with her words of "Why did you never tell me about the Lord?"
These people are hungry - we just have to open our mouths and testify.

  3. Oh and a follow-up on that story - that whole family is now full of the Holy Ghost and some of the best "testifiers" in our church!

  4. Wow... no wonder Jesus told us we need to be converted and become as little children! Thank you for sharing this! I know one time when I was about 2 years old, it was altar call time and a sinner was hanging back in the pew. I saw she wasn't praying, so I shamelessly walked up to her and said, "Lady! Go pray!" She went up and prayed and received the Holy Ghost! I want to have more of a boldness when it comes to witnessing and talking to people about the Lord.

Also, thanks for you story, Bethany! ^
